Purchasing takeaway alcohol in the Northern Territory
In the Northern Territory problem drinkers can be banned from purchasing takeaway alcohol. These bans are enforced through a Banned Drinker Register and an ID scanning system at our liquor outlets.
This means that anyone buying takeaway alcohol in the Northern Territory will be required to have their existing photo ID scanned and matched to the Banned Drinker Register. If you are not identified as a banned drinker, you can go ahead and buy your alcohol as normal.
No information about you is recorded.
Acceptable forms of identification include:
- Passport
- NT or other Australian drivers licence
- NT or other Australian evidence of age card
- NT Ochre Card.
